CPI(M) Asks ULP To Act Responsibly
IN
its meeting held on June 12, the Goa state committee of the Communist Party of
India (Marxist) welcomed the defeat of the BJP in four constituencies in the
state. However, the defeat of the Congress candidate in the Poinguinim
constituency exposes the hollowness of the secular credentials of the Congress-NCP
alliance, especially in the eyes of the predominantly tribal population of that
constituency.
The
party further said the subsequent ugly public fighting between the local leaders
of the Congress and the NCP regarding ministry formation also exposes their lack
of sincere commitment to the cause of people’s welfare. The CPI(M) warned
these parties that, if not curbed today, their opportunistic tendencies would
only pave the way for a comeback of the communal combine because of popular
disillusionment with the secular parties’ performance in government.
The CPI(M) has urged upon the constituents of the United Legislature Party (Congress, NCP and MGP) to act responsibly, immediately sit together and draft a Common Minimum Programme for the welfare of Goa’s people and to work unitedly on that basis.
